OPTA members represent public transit systems, private and non-profit transportation providers, suppliers, consultants, and government representatives. Member fees apply only to operating budget or sales in Ontario.
Membership Types and Rates
Transit Membership Details
Any entity or individual which operates a public transit or community transportation service in Ontario and includes any non-profit or government agency operating a public transit service on a not-for-profit basis.
Fee Details
Membership fee varies according to Transportation Operating Budget or Net Sales:
- $100,000,000 or more = $6,650
- $10,000,000 to $99,999,999 = $3,325
- $1,000,000 to $9,999,999 = $1,331
- $999,999 or less = $675
Fees do not include HST. New member applications after July 1 each year are pro-rated.
Business Membership Details
Any corporation or entity engaged in the manufacture, sale and/or provision of equipment, supplies or services to the industry and includes a for-profit private corporation or entity operating a public transit service in Ontario under contract to a government agency.
Fee Details

Affiliate Membership Details
Any corporation, agency or individual interested in or affiliated with the transit/community transportation sector and not otherwise eligible under any of the other three membership categories. Affiliate members may also include an individual enrolled in a post-secondary education program related to the public and/or private transit/community transportation industry.
Membership Fee: $675
Fees do not include HST. New member applications after July 1 each year are pro-rated.
Individual Membership Details
Any corporation, agency, entity or individual interested in and not earning income from the public and/or private transit/community transportation industry, and not eligible as an Affiliate Member, a Business Member or a Transit System Member, and includes an individual enrolled in a post-secondary education program related to the public and/or private transit/community transportation industry.
Membership Fee: $200
Fees do not include HST. New member applications after July 1 each year are pro-rated.
Student Membership Details
Any corporation, agency or individual interested in or affiliated with the transit/community transportation sector and not otherwise eligible under any of the other three membership categories. Affiliate members may also include an individual enrolled in a post-secondary education program related to the public and/or private transit/community transportation industry.
Membership Fee: $75
Fees do not include HST. New member applications after July 1 each year are pro-rated.
Government Membership Details
Any federal, provincial or municipal government department, ministry or agency having an interest in the transit or community transportation sector and which is not otherwise eligible to join as a Transit System or Business member. Government representatives are encouraged to contact us to discuss how they can become involved in OPTA.
