While advocacy primarily benefits transit system members and is the main “raison d’être” for OPTA, it is important that Business members understand the key public policy issues impacting your customers. Their success at Queen’s Park equates to your success. Supporting the association which represents your customers makes good business sense. At the same time, Business Members themselves can benefit from OPTA’s lobbying activity, as evidenced by the success we’ve had with lobbying for Gas Tax funding and other regulatory reforms.
Serving the Transit Industry
The OPTA Business Members Committee is the newest committee designed to add value to Business membership. the committee meets at least twice a year, at OTE and the regional meetings and is an important resource to the Ontario transit community.
OPTA launched the “OPTA Business Member Webinar Series” as a membership benefit.
We are constantly looking for new topics. Preference will be given to timely topics, with an educational focus.
Stay on top of issues with OPTA’s regular newsletters about our lobbying activities, key developments and upcoming events. We are also very active on social media and run campaigns that benefit the industry. Follow us on twitter: @ON_PublicTrnsit
Opportunity for Business Members at the Regional & Maintenance Committee Meetings
Every fall, OPTA holds a series of regional meetings and a maintenance committee meeting, which are well-attended by Transit GM’s and senior management. At each of these meetings, we give our Business Members the opportunity for a 5-minute update as part of the Round Table Topics, to inform Transit Managers about new products and services. Visit www.ontariopublictransit.ca for latest event calendar updates.
Every year, OPTA prints and distributes the OPTA membership directory. It is mailed out to all OPTA membership and is a comprehensive guide for the Transit Industry. OPTA Business Members get an opportunity to include a 100-word description of their products and services. You will be receiving an email in the next few days with the information we have on file for you. Please take the opportunity to review the staff listed and update all contact information. While the printed directory is distributed once a year, the Online Membership Directory is always available and includes many more transit system contacts than the printed directory. This online directory is self-serve so you can add, delete, and modify your contact information as necessary.
You’ll need your membership login information to access the online membership directory.
Conference & Trade Show
Started in 1999, the Ontario Transportation Expo conference and trade show is a joint event organized by the Ontario Bus Consortium, which is three partnering associations – the Ontario Motor Coach Association (OMCA), the Ontario Public Transit Association (OPTA) and the School Bus Ontario (SBO). This event is a combination of buyers and sellers from the entire bus transportation industry, not found anywhere else in Canada.
