109 municipalities depend on the Dedicated Public Transit Fund. These municipalities serve 144 communities representing over 92% of Ontario’s population.

The Ontario transit industry supports approx. 65,000 jobs each year. Over the long term, each additional $1m invested in public transit creates the equivalent of 107 jobs.

Stable, predictable gas tax funding allows municipalities to plan for and invest in transit facilities and services. Recent ridership trends show that people will take transit that is frequent and reliable.

Each $1 invested in transit infrastructure in Ontario increases economic output by $29 over its life-cycle. This is far more than other forms of infrastructure like roads, highways & bridges.

OPTA members represent public transit systems, private and non-profit transportation providers, suppliers, consultants, and government representatives. Member fees apply only to operating budget or sales in Ontario.

Access the COVID-19 Products & Services Directory

COVID-19 Products & Services Directory is a *NEW* membership service for OPTA members. This is our effort to help Transit System Members to source hard to find supplies from Business Members.

Click here to find a service provider for your COVID-19 response needs.

List your Business in the Directory

If you are an OPTA member and would like to include your business information in the COVID-19 Products & Services Directory, click here.

While advocacy primarily benefits transit system members and is the main “raison d’être” for OPTA, it is important that Business members understand the key public policy issues impacting your customers. Their success at Queen’s Park equates to your success. Supporting the association which represents your customers makes good business sense. At the same time, Business Members themselves can benefit from OPTA’s lobbying activity, as evidenced by the success we’ve had with lobbying for Gas Tax funding and other regulatory reforms.

Serving the Transit Industry

The OPTA Business Members Committee is the newest committee designed to add value to Business membership. the committee meets at least twice a year, at OTE and the regional meetings and is an important resource to the Ontario transit community.

OPTA launched the “OPTA Business Member Webinar Series” as a membership benefit.

We are constantly looking for new topics. Preference will be given to timely topics, with an educational focus.

Opportunity for Business Members at the Regional & Maintenance Committee Meetings

Every fall, OPTA holds a series of regional meetings and a maintenance committee meeting, which are well-attended by Transit GM’s and senior management. At each of these meetings, we give our Business Members the opportunity for a 5-minute update as part of the Round Table Topics, to inform Transit Managers about new products and services. Visit www.ontariopublictransit.ca for latest event calendar updates.

Every year, OPTA prints and distributes the OPTA membership directory. It is mailed out to all OPTA membership and is a comprehensive guide for the Transit Industry. OPTA Business Members get an opportunity to include a 100-word description of their products and services. You will be receiving an email in the next few days with the information we have on file for you. Please take the opportunity to review the staff listed and update all contact information. While the printed directory is distributed once a year, the Online Membership Directory is always available and includes many more transit system contacts than the printed directory.  This online directory is self-serve so you can add, delete, and modify your contact information as necessary.

You’ll need your membership login information to access the online membership directory.
