Looking for a new and exciting job opportunity? We are currently seeking an Axle Fitter – Machine Shop to join the Streetcar Maintenance Department. This position involves working various shifts, and with primary off days being Saturday/Sunday.

What You Will Do

  • You will be responsible to perform disassembly, inspection, repair and moderately complex fitting work on axles, axle housings and a variety of gear assemblies including the adjustment and fitting of gear sets to close tolerances.
  • You will perform running maintenance on LFLRV axles and gear boxes as well as repairing gear assemblies from various pieces of equipment.
  • You will troubleshoot noisy gear boxes or axles mounted on vehicles, trucks or tester units.
  • Additionally, you will perform mechanical overhaul, repair and bench fitting duties on various pieces of Shop and Carhouse equipment.
  • You will input and retrieve information from the Vehicle Maintenance System (VMS), Industrial and Financial Systems (IFS), etc.
  • You will also complete various forms, records, defect tags, etc.

What Qualifications Do You Bring

  • Your education and training will consist of a completed Grade 12 technical program, or its equivalent as determined by the Training Department or its equivalent through considerable mechanical or machine shop experience.
  • Your must have successfully completed community college level courses machine shop practices (encompassing basic safety, hand tool usage, precision measurement, close tolerance fitting, metric/imperial conversion, fraction/decimal conversion, etc.) or show proof of equivalent specialized training.
  • You must pass the Department’s theoretical/skills test.
