We have an exciting opportunity for a Survey Technologist to join our talented Way Engineering team in our Streetcar Infrastructure Department!

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Senior Engineer, Design & Standards, you will provide surveying, mapping, CADD, GIS and related technical support and expertise for the design and construction of transit lines (track), and associated structures and facilities.  You will use your field surveying, data searching/analysis, planning, and drafting skills to assist both consultants and technical staff on track projects (layout, topography, components, etc.)

Other responsibilities of your role will include:

  • Performing digital mapping work, and searching available survey and construction records;
  • Preparing and planning field work, performing in-house field surveys, monitoring work performed by contractors, and assuming the role of crew chief and OHS competent field supervisor;
  • Maintaining field survey data, results, and reports and using CADD to filter and present findings;
  • Inspecting track work and alignment for conformance with drawings, specifications, and TTC design standards;
  • Reviewing drawings and interpreting track geometry specifications, identifying and resolving deficiencies, and liaising with various stakeholders;

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • A post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Civil Engineering) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent;
  • You already possess either OACETT or P.Eng certification, or will be required to obtain one within a period established by management;
  • A valid non-probationary Province of Ontario Class “G” driver’s license;
  • Proven experience in surveying and/or track inspection, applying your knowledge of surveying and mapping methods and practices;
  • Experience using various survey instruments and tools (theodolites, total stations, digital levels, etc.)
  • Sound knowledge of control surveying, topographic surveying, property surveying, utility surveying, deformation monitoring and other design survey work;
  • Proficiency in Geographic Coordinate Systems, their relationships and conversions, GPS vs UTM and City surveying practices;
  • Familiarity with design and construction processes and concepts as they relate to transit and track projects;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable guidelines, codes, legislation, and standards;
  • Proficiency with CADD software and other office, engineering and surveying software/applications;
